Bitterroot Health Builds a Thriving Wellness Culture with Wellness360

When Kristi Stensatter, Employee Health and Benefits Manager at Bitterroot Health, set out to build a structured wellness program for her workforce, her goal was clear: give employees a meaningful, rewarding way to prioritize their health and tie that engagement to tangible benefits. The partnership with Wellness360 began in early 2025, with Zikea McCurdie, VP of Wellness Programs & Strategy, serving as the primary relationship lead. From Kristi's very first onboarding conversation, she also had a longer-term vision: the introduction of Lifestyle Spending Accounts (LSAs) as a future incentive layer for employees.

A Structured Incentive Program Built for Engagement

Bitterroot Health launched a tiered incentive campaign with a 600-point compliance goal. The required foundation included an Annual PCP Wellness Exam, Biometric Screening, and Health Risk Assessment (each worth 150 points), ensuring the path to rewards ran through meaningful preventive care. Optional activities such as dental and vision exams, flu shots, and cancer screenings added further opportunities, alongside an accrual-based tier covering Wellbeing Courses, Micro-Learning, Journeys, Challenges, Habits, and exercise and food logging.

As with any new program, the first months involved thoughtful iteration. Acting on early employee feedback, Bitterroot Health and Wellness360 worked closely together to refine the incentive structure, adjusting point values and activity configurations to better match how their workforce actually engages. That collaborative, responsive approach became a defining feature of the partnership.

Participation Soars, Culture Shifts

Once properly configured, engagement responded with clear momentum. Some employees reached the maximum allowable points for Habits and Journeys during the plan year and went on to earn the full annual maximum, a strong signal of sustained, motivated participation. Others actively sought out additional ways to earn after exhausting what was initially available. The volume of employee-driven questions became its own proof point: staff were invested, not just enrolled.

Walking challenges, Journeys, and the platform's social features and leaderboards generated friendly competition across departments, keeping wellness conversations active and building genuine community momentum throughout the organization.

The Road Ahead

In March 2026, Wellness360 invited Bitterroot Health to be among the first organizations to migrate to Wellness360 Gen 2. The reaction from Kristi and her team was immediately positive. "We were afraid it was going to be a really major overhaul. I think that for the end user, it's not as significant as what we had feared. So I'm pleasantly surprised by that." recalled Kristi.

The migration is planned to coincide with the start of their new plan year, with all existing user data, points, and program history transferring seamlessly. Kristi has also expressed interest in activating the LSA feature in Gen 2, the same goal she had articulated from day one of the partnership. For Bitterroot Health, Wellness360 has become more than a wellness tool; it's the infrastructure for a culture where employees are active, motivated participants in their own health journey.
